Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté the minced garlic until fragrant, about 1 minute.
Add chicken breasts to the skillet and cook until browned on each side, about 3 minutes per side. Remove from heat and set aside.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, sugar, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
Place the browned chicken breasts in a baking dish. Pour the milk and egg mixture over the chicken.
Sprinkle the cheddar cheese evenly over the chicken and liquid mixture in the baking dish.
Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes.
Remove the foil and continue baking for another 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown and the chicken is cooked through.
Once cooked, remove from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.
