Cook macaroni in a large pot of boiling salted water according to package instructions for al dente texture. Drain and set aside.
While the macaroni is cooking, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until onion becomes translucent.
Add ground beef to the skillet. Cook until the beef is browned, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks.
Stir in canned tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer the mixture for 15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
In a baking dish, begin layering. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom, followed by a layer of macaroni, then a generous sprinkle of mozzarella cheese. Repeat these layers, finishing with mozzarella cheese on top.
Sprinkle parmesan cheese evenly over the top layer of mozzarella.
Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Remove from oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
