Onion Fried Rice

Onion Fried Rice

By Shona Bonewit

Total: 25 minutes
Main CourseAsianVegetarian

Ingredients

  • 1 cup White rice
  • 1 large Onion
  • 2 tbsp Vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.25 tsp Black pepper
  • 2 stalks Green onion

Instructions

1

Rinse the rice thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming sticky.

2

In a pot, add 2 cups of water to 1 cup of rice and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes or until the rice is tender and all the water is absorbed.

3

Meanwhile, peel and finely chop the onion and garlic cloves. Slice the green onions thinly and set aside.

4

In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sauté until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.

5

Add the cooked rice to the skillet, stirring well to combine with the onions and garlic. Continue cooking for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently.

6

Add soy sauce, salt, and pepper to the rice. Stir well to ensure even coating and flavoring.

7

Garnish with sliced green onions before serving hot.
