Ingredients

  • 2 cups steel-cut oats
  • 3 diced apples
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup walnuts
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 3 cups milk or plant milk
  • 3 cups water
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

1

In a large saucepan, bring 3 cups of water and 3 cups of milk or plant milk to a boil.

2

Add the steel-cut oats and a pinch of salt to the boiling liquid, stirring well. Reduce the heat to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

3

While the oats are cooking, dice the apples if you haven't already.

4

After 15 minutes, stir in the diced apples, cinnamon, and maple syrup. Continue to simmer for another 15-20 minutes, or until the oats are tender and creamy, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

5

Once the oats are cooked to your liking, remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the chopped walnuts.

6

Serve the oats hot, garnished with additional chopped walnuts and a drizzle of maple syrup if desired.
