Pasta with Marinara Sauce

Pasta with Marinara Sauce

By Ebenezer Obiri

Total: 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 8 oz pasta
  • 28 oz canned crushed tomatoes
  • 1 medium onion
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil (for garnish)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

1

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

2

While the pasta is cooking, finely chop the onion and garlic cloves.

3

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 5 minutes, or until translucent.

4

Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for another minute, until fragrant.

5

Pour the canned crushed tomatoes into the skillet. Stir in the dried basil, dried oregano, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer.

6

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

7

Once the sauce has thickened slightly and the flavors have melded, taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.

8

Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and toss to coat the pasta in the marinara sauce. Heat through for another 2-3 minutes.

9

Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil and grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
