Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water and then drain the pasta.
While the pasta is cooking, finely chop the garlic and dice the tomatoes.
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
Add the diced tomatoes to the skillet, along with salt and black pepper. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until the tomatoes have broken down into a saucy consistency.
Add the cooked pasta to the tomato sauce in the skillet. Toss well to combine, adding reserved pasta water as needed to reach desired sauciness.
Chop the fresh basil and add it to the pasta, tossing to combine. Serve hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese.
