DessertFrenchCustard

Ingredients

  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 0.5 cup sugar

Instructions

1

Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C).

2

In a saucepan, warm the milk over medium heat. Do not bring it to a boil; just heat until warm.

3

In a bowl, whisk together the eggs and sugar until well combined and slightly frothy.

4

Slowly pour the warm milk into the egg mixture while continuously whisking to prevent the eggs from scrambling.

5

Prepare a baking dish or ramekins by greasing them with the butter.

6

Pour the custard mixture into the prepared baking dish or ramekins.

7

Place the baking dish or ramekins in a larger baking pan and fill the pan with hot water halfway up the sides of the dish or ramekins to create a water bath.

8

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the custard is set around the edges but still slightly jiggly in the center.

9

Remove from the oven and let it cool to room temperature. The custard will continue to set as it cools.

10

Serve warm or chilled. Garnish with fresh fruit or a sprinkle of nutmeg if desired.
