Total: 1 hour
Side DishComfort FoodVegetarian

Ingredients

  • 1 large onion
  • 4 medium potatoes
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 1/2 cups cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

1

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Peel and thinly slice the potatoes and onion. Mince the garlic cloves.

2

In a medium skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and sauté the onion and garlic until they are soft and translucent, about 5-7 minutes.

3

In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the milk and half of the grated cheese, stirring until the cheese is fully melted. Season with salt and pepper.

4

Grease a baking dish with butter. Layer half of the potatoes in the baking dish, followed by the sautéed onion and garlic mixture. Pour half of the cheese sauce over the layer.

5

Add the remaining potatoes on top, and pour the remaining cheese sauce over them. Sprinkle with the remaining cheese.

6

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are cooked through. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
