Preheat the oven to 325°F (163°C) and lightly grease six ramekins with butter or non-stick spray.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and sugar until the mixture is smooth and pale.
Gradually add in the milk while continuing to whisk the mixture.
Stir in the vanilla extract and salt, ensuring they are well combined.
Strain the custard mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a large pitcher or bowl to remove any egg solids.
Divide the strained custard mixture evenly into the prepared ramekins.
Place the ramekins in a large baking dish, and fill the baking dish with hot water halfway up the sides of the ramekins to create a water bath.
Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes or until the custard is set around the edges but still slightly jiggly in the center.
Remove the ramekins from the water bath and let them cool to room temperature. Then, refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
