In a large mixing bowl, combine the eggs, whole milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, sugar, and salt. Whisk until well incorporated and slightly frothy.
Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat until melted and bubbling.
Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, allowing each side to soak for a few seconds. Ensure that the bread is well coated but not soggy.
Place the soaked bread slices into the skillet, cooking 2-3 slices at a time depending on the size of your skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
Remove the cooked French toast from the skillet and keep warm. Repeat with the remaining butter and bread slices.
Serve warm, optionally with powdered sugar, maple syrup, fresh berries, or whipped cream.
