Italian Meatballs and Spaghetti

Italian Meatballs and Spaghetti

By Shona Bonewit

Total: 45 minutes
Main CourseItalian

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 0.5 cup breadcrumbs
  • 0.25 cup parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 0.25 cup fresh parsley
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 jar marinara sauce
  • 12 oz spaghetti

Instructions

1

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper for easy cleanup.

2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, chopped fresh parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well incorporated, being careful not to over-mix which can make the meatballs tough.

3

Form the mixture into 1-inch meatballs and place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each meatball.

4

Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until browned and cooked through.

5

While the meatballs are baking, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

6

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the jar of marinara sauce and bring it to a simmer.

7

Add the cooked meatballs to the marinara sauce and gently stir to coat them. Allow them to simmer in the sauce for 5 minutes to absorb the flavors.

8

Serve the meatballs and sauce over the cooked spaghetti. Garnish with additional parmesan cheese and fresh parsley, if desired.
