In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook, breaking it apart with a spatula until it’s browned and cooked through, about 7-10 minutes.
Drain any excess fat from the skillet. Return it to the heat and add the taco seasoning and 1/2 cup water to the ground beef. Stir well to combine and let it simmer for about 5 minutes or until the sauce thickens slightly. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
While the beef is cooking, chop the lettuce into bite-sized pieces. Dice the tomatoes and set them aside.
Spread the tortilla chips evenly on a large serving platter or individual plates.
Assemble the salad by layering the cooked beef over the tortilla chips, followed by the lettuce and tomatoes. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top.
Add a dollop of sour cream on the top of each serving. Optionally, add extra toppings like sliced avocado, jalapeños, or your favorite salsa if desired.
