Grind the coffee beans to a medium-coarse consistency using a coffee grinder. 100 grams of coffee beans should yield about 3/4 cup of ground coffee.
Bring 500 ml of clean water to a near boil in a kettle or a pot (around 200°F or 93°C), then let it cool slightly.
Pour about 125 ml of the hot water over the coffee grounds in a French press. Allow it to steep for one minute, then slowly press the plunger down to the bottom and discard the liquid. This step helps to remove some of the caffeine.
Add the remaining 375 ml of hot water to the coffee grounds in the French press.
Place the lid on the French press and allow the coffee to steep for 4 minutes.
Slowly press the plunger down to separate the coffee grounds from the liquid.
Pour the decaffeinated coffee into your mug and enjoy it hot. Add milk or sweeteners as desired.
