Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to the package instructions until al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water and drain the rest.
While the pasta is cooking, heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.
Add the minced garlic to the oil and sauté until golden and fragrant, about 1-2 minutes. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
Add the red pepper flakes to the garlic and oil, sauté for another 30 seconds to release the flavors.
Add the cooked spaghetti to the pan along with some reserved pasta water to help create a sauce. Toss everything together to combine.
Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Add the chopped parsley and half of the grated Parmesan cheese, then toss well.
Serve the pasta hot, topped with the remaining Parmesan cheese.
