Boil a large pot of salted water and cook the pasta according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Dice the tomatoes into small cubes. Mince the garlic and roughly chop the basil leaves.
In a large pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
Add the diced tomatoes to the pan and cook for 5-7 minutes until they begin to break down into a sauce. Season with salt and black pepper.
Add the cooked pasta to the pan with the tomato sauce. Toss to combine, allowing the pasta to absorb some of the sauce.
Grate the cheese and add it to the pan. Stir until the cheese melts and coats the pasta evenly.
Add the chopped basil to the pasta and mix well. Adjust the seasoning according to taste.
Serve the pasta hot, garnished with additional basil or cheese if desired.
