Ingredients

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup milk (optional)
  • 1 cup mixed fresh fruits (such as berries, banana, apple)
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (such as almonds or walnuts, optional)

Instructions

1

In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add 1/4 teaspoon salt to enhance flavor.

2

Stir in 1 cup of rolled oats. Reduce heat to medium-low and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 5 minutes or until the oats are soft and absorb most of the water.

3

If using, add 1 cup of milk to the oats for a creamier texture. Stir well and continue to cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.

4

Add 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon and 1/8 teaspoon of nutmeg to the oatmeal. Stir to combine.

5

Remove the saucepan from heat. Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and 2 tablespoons of honey or maple syrup.

6

Fold in 1 cup of mixed fresh fruits and 1/4 cup of chopped nuts, if using. Mix until evenly distributed throughout the oats.

7

Let the oatmeal rest for a few minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld. Serve warm and enjoy!
