Classic Butter Cookies

Total: 45 minutes
DessertBakingSnacks

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 medium egg

Instructions

1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2

In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. This should take about 3-4 minutes of mixing with an electric mixer.

3

Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.

4

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to over-mix.

5

Roll the dough into small balls (about 1 inch in diameter) and place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches of space between each ball.

6

Using the back of a fork, gently press down on each dough ball to flatten slightly and create a criss-cross pattern on the top.

7

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the edges are slightly golden brown.

8

Remove from the oven and allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
