Simple Sweet Tortillas

Simple Sweet Tortillas

By Lacy Cheyenne

Total: 45 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 pieces eggs
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons plus extra for cooking vegetable oil

Instructions

1

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt until well combined.

2

In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, then add the milk and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil, mixing until smooth.

3

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring with a spoon until a dough begins to form. If the mixture is too sticky, add a little more flour, one tablespoon at a time. Knead the dough for a few minutes until it is soft and elastic.

4

Cover the dough with a kitchen towel and let it rest for about 15 minutes to relax the gluten, making it easier to roll out.

5

Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and roll each piece into a ball.

6

Using a rolling pin, roll each ball into a thin, round tortilla approximately 6-7 inches in diameter.

7

Preheat a non-stick skillet or a griddle over medium-high heat and lightly grease it with vegetable oil.

8

Place a tortilla on the hot skillet, cooking for about 1-2 minutes on each side, or until bubbles form on the surface and brown spots appear. Repeat with the remaining dough balls, adding oil to the skillet as needed.

9

Keep the cooked tortillas warm by stacking them and covering them with a dry cloth until serving.
