In a large mixing bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy and smooth, about 2-3 minutes, using an electric mixer on medium speed.
Gradually add the powdered sugar, about 1/2 cup at a time, mixing well after each addition. Continue beating until the mixture is fluffy.
Add the pumpkin puree, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, and salt. Beat on medium speed until everything is well combined and the frosting is smooth and creamy.
Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary. If the frosting is too thick, add a little more pumpkin puree or a few drops of milk until the desired consistency is reached.
