  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar (for crumb topping)
  • 1/2 cup butter (for crumb topping)
  • 1 cup flour (for crumb topping)
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 unit egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease an 8x8-inch baking pan.

In a large mixing bowl, cream together 1 cup of butter and 1 1/2 cups of sugar until light and fluffy.

Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and beat until well combined.

In a separate bowl, sift together 2 1/2 cups of flour, baking powder, and salt.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, mixing after each addition until just combined.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.

To make the crumb topping, mix together 1 cup of flour, 1/2 cup of sugar, and 1 tablespoon of cinnamon in a bowl.

Cut in 1/2 cup of butter into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the cake batter in the pan.

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
