Classic Meatball Sub

By Shona Bonewit

Total: 30 minutes
Main DishItalianSandwich

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Meatballs
  • 4 pieces Sub rolls
  • 2 cups Marinara sauce
  • 2 cups Mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup Fresh basil
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil

Instructions

1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

2

In a medium-sized saucepan over medium heat, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Once the oil is hot, add the meatballs and cook until they are heated through, about 5-7 minutes.

3

Pour 2 cups of marinara sauce over the meatballs, bringing the mixture to a simmer. Let it cook for another 5 minutes until the meatballs are well-coated and the sauce is warm. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

4

Slice the sub rolls in half lengthwise without cutting all the way through, creating a pocket for the meatballs.

5

Place the sub rolls on a baking sheet and fill each roll with the sauce-coated meatballs. Use approximately 1/4 lb of meatballs per sub.

6

Top each sub with 1/2 cup of marinara sauce from the pan, making sure to spread it evenly.

7

Sprinkle 1/2 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese on each sub.

8

Place the baking sheet with the assembled subs into the preheated oven. Bake for 10 minutes or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly.

9

Remove the baking sheet from the oven and garnish each sub with freshly chopped basil.

10

Serve the meatball subs hot and enjoy!
