Classic Hamburger

Classic Hamburger

By Lisa McVicker

Total: 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef (hamburger meat)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 4 pieces Hamburger buns
  • 4 pieces Cheese slices (optional)
  • 4 pieces Lettuce leaves
  • 1 medium Tomato
  • 8 slices Pickle slices
  • 1/4 cup Ketchup
  • 1/4 cup Mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons Mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil

Instructions

1

In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 pound of ground beef with 1 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, and 1/2 teaspoon onion powder. Mix the ingredients gently with your hands until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

2

Divide the seasoned hamburger meat into four equal parts and shape each into a round patty approximately 3/4 inch thick. Use your thumb to make a small indentation in the center of each patty to prevent it from puffing up while cooking.

3

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is shimmering, place the patties in the skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on the first side until well browned.

4

Flip the patties and add a slice of cheese to the top of each. Continue to cook for another 3-4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the burgers have reached your desired doneness (145°F for medium rare, 160°F for medium).

5

While the burgers are cooking, slice the tomato into thin rounds and prepare the buns by spreading each side with mayonnaise.

6

Toast the buns in the skillet, cut side down, until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes.

7

Assemble the burgers by placing each patty on the bottom half of a toasted bun. Top with lettuce, tomato slices, pickles, ketchup, and mustard. Cover with the top half of the bun.

8

Serve immediately with your choice of sides.
