Preheat a skillet over medium heat. Place the bacon slices in the pan and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until crispy. Remove the bacon and drain on paper towels.
While the bacon is cooking, wash and dry the lettuce leaves and tomato. Slice the tomato into thick slices.
Lightly toast the slices of whole-grain bread in a toaster or under a broiler until golden brown.
Spread 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise on one side of each slice of toasted bread.
On one slice of bread, place the lettuce leaves as the first layer.
Add the tomato slices on top of the lettuce, and season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Place the crispy bacon slices over the tomatoes.
Top with the second slice of bread, mayonnaise side down, to complete the sandwich. Cut the sandwich in half and serve immediately.
