Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add the dried linguine and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1/4 cup of pasta water, then drain the linguine.
While the pasta cooks, trim the woody ends off the asparagus and cut the spears into bite-sized pieces.
In a large pan over medium heat, add the olive oil. Once hot, add the chopped garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, until fragrant.
Add the asparagus to the pan and cook for 3-4 minutes, until they are bright and tender-crisp.
Add the shrimp to the asparagus and cook for about 2-3 minutes, until the shrimp turn pink and opaque.
Stir in the tomato passata and chili flakes. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes.
Add the cooked linguine to the sauce along with a splash of reserved pasta water. Toss everything together to coat the pasta in the sauce.
Serve hot, garnished with extra chili flakes if desired.
