Classic Macaroni and Cheese

By emensah m

Total: 45 minutes

Ingredients

  • 250 g macaroni
  • 200 g cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

2

Cook the macaroni in a large pot of boiling salted water until al dente, about 8 minutes. Drain and set aside.

3

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the flour and stir to create a roux, cooking for about 1 minute.

4

Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to cook and stir until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.

5

Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until it is completely melted and the sauce is smooth.

6

Season the cheese sauce with salt and pepper, then combine it with the cooked macaroni, ensuring the pasta is well coated.

7

Transfer the macaroni and cheese mixture to a greased baking dish.

8

In a small bowl, combine the breadcrumbs with olive oil, then sprinkle the mixture evenly over the macaroni and cheese.

9

Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and the breadcrumbs are golden brown.

10

Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
