Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a medium-sized saucepan over medium heat.
Add 1/4 cup of chopped onion and 1 minced garlic clove to the pan. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
Add the 4 oz of lean ground turkey to the pan. Cook, breaking up the turkey with a spoon, until it's browned and cooked through, about 5-6 minutes.
Stir in 1/2 cup of canned tomatoes, 1/2 cup of drained and rinsed kidney or black beans, and 1 tablespoon of chili seasoning. Mix everything together well.
Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add salt and black pepper to taste.
Serve the turkey and bean chili over 1 cup of cooked brown rice, garnished with chopped fresh cilantro if desired.
